What is Assisted Living?
July 30, 2015
Assisted living is a long-term care solution for seniors who don’t require 24/7 medical attention, but could use help with their daily living activities. To receive such care, a person has to move to an assisted living facility specifically designed and equipped to make life easier for someone with limited mobility, frail bones or painful joints.
Assisted Living Facilities
A standard assisted living facility is fully ADA-compliant, featuring wheelchair ramps, grab bars and all necessary modifications for senior living. Assisted living facilities can be large or small, but the modern trend is toward the smaller structures that can provide more personal care and a tighter community, which is what we have at Kenwood Care. These smaller assisted living facilities are also known as residential care homes, because they provide a home-like environment.
The Level of Assistance
Different assisted living facilities may provide a different level of assistance. For example, at Kenwood Care we are able to help our residents with virtually any daily task and chore, such as:
- Bathing, dressing and personal care
- Getting the right amounts of healthy foods
- Managing chronic conditions, such as diabetes or arthritis
- Moving inside the facility
- Laundry and housekeeping
- Participating in social activities
A good assisted living facility will adjust its levels of assistance as your loved one’s care needs change. That’s why it’s crucial to choose a facility with attentive and caring caregivers that will get to know your loved one and will recognize any changes in health or behavior as soon as they happen.
