It’s one of the biggest questions families have when exploring assisted living:
What happens when our care needs to change?
An aging loved one may move into an assisted living home relatively independent, but over time might require more hands-on support, memory care, or help with daily living.
Here at Kenwood Care, we believe peace of mind comes from knowing family members won’t have to uproot their lives every time their needs evolve.
For nearly 30 years, our team has built its model around flexibility, continuity, and compassion – so care can adjust with you, not against you.
What Are “Levels of Care” in Assisted Living?
In assisted living, “levels of care” refer to the amount and type of support a resident requires to live safely and comfortably.
These needs can change gradually or suddenly, and may include:
- Help with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) like bathing, dressing, or grooming.
- Medication management.
- Mobility assistance.
- Supervision for safety.
- Memory care support for Alzheimer’s or dementia.
Generally, levels of care fall into three categories:
Level 1 – Low Support Needs
Residents may be largely independent yet benefit from routine medication reminders, light supervision, meal support, and a safe, structured environment.
Level 2 – Moderate Support Needs
Residents require more hands-on assistance with ADLs like bathing or dressing. Care is personalized and adjusted as needs evolve.
Level 3 – Advanced Support Needs
Residents need extensive assistance throughout the day, including advanced memory care, close supervision, and comprehensive help with daily tasks. At Kenwood Care, this higher level of care is delivered without forcing residents to leave the comfort of their home or familiar caregivers.
Many assisted living communities require that residents move to different facilities—or pay significantly more – as they advance through the levels of care.
Kenwood Care takes a very different approach.
A Model Built for Changing Needs
Here, residents receive care in small, residential-style homes housing just 16 residents each. A tight caregiver-to-resident ratio allows our experienced staff to get to know residents deeply, allowing them to recognize subtle changes early and respond thoughtfully.
As needs increase, care is adjusted seamlessly and unobtrusively. Familiar caregivers, routines, and surroundings remain the same, which is especially important for seniors with memory loss.
Assisted Living and Memory Care – Together, Not Separate
One of the most common questions families ask is whether memory care support can be provided within assisted living. The answer is yes.
As a Level 3-designated assisted living provider, our homes are uniquely designed to support residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia while still providing the warmth and normalcy of an assisted living environment. This integrated approach allows residents to remain in the same home – even if memory care needs emerge – rather than transitioning to a separate, unfamiliar facility.
How Kenwood Care Differs from Nursing Homes
Families sometimes worry that assisted living won’t provide enough long-term support. While nursing homes deliver skilled medical care, they can often feel clinical and impersonal.
We bridge that gap. We offer extensive personal care and memory support in a home – like setting, allowing many residents to avoid or delay the need for a nursing home altogether – while preserving dignity, comfort, and quality of life.
All-Inclusive Care That Adapts Over Time
Another defining feature of Kenwood Care is our all-inclusive, fixed-rate pricing model. As care needs increase, families aren’t faced with constant add-on fees or surprise charges. This financial predictability allows families to focus on what truly matters: their loved one’s well-being.
Care evolves, support increases, and peace of mind stays constant.

Understanding levels of care isn’t just about services – it’s about trust. Families continue to choose Kenwood Care because they know we’re prepared for whatever today may bring and what tomorrow may hold.
